TCF First Academia Cultural Tour to Turkey
May 13 - June 1,2010

The Academia Spring Cultural Tour is a specialized tour of Turkey that aims to enhance participants’ understanding about Turkish education, society and culture, as well as inspire collaborative programs between Turkish and American universities. In particular, this tour aims to introduce Turkey as a study tour/study abroad destination to American universities, increase academic exchanges, cultural and social interactions between Turkish and American universities, as well as spur interest in academic programs on Turkey at American educational institutions.

The Academia Cultural Tour’s program will include special items, such as visits to Turkish universities and interactions with members of the Turkish academia. For more information, send an email to Ms. Nurten Ural at detroit@turkishculture.org

TCF Cultural Tour to Turkey
September 13 – 29, 2010

The purpose of the TCF cultural tours is to introduce Turkey to influential Americans from different segments society with a view to build people-to-people cultural bridges between Turkey and the United States. A limited number of seats are available to the interested public.

The Turkish Cultural Foundation's tour is a cultural immersion into Turkish art, music, culinary heritage, architecture, cultural diversity, history and natural beauty. TCF Turkish Art and Culture Lecture Series in Istanbul

One of the educational programs organized by the Turkish Cultural Foundation Turkey Branch office in Istanbul is the Turkish Art and Culture Lecture Series. With this lecture series, the Foundation aims to introduce the rich cultural and artistic heritage of Turkey to resident representatives and officials of foreign institutions in Istanbul, such as members of the consular corps, foreign faculty members and the expatriate community at large. This program serves the mission of the Turkish Cultural Foundation to promote Turkish culture and build cultural bridges through people to people cultural exchanges and public education. American Students Visit Turkey on a Musical Journey

Supported by a grant from the Turkish Cultural Foundation, 34 students and faculty members from Bryn Mawr and Haverford College (PA) visited Turkey in March on a 10-day cultural exchange tour that took them to several cities and universities. The students were members of the Chamber Singers of Bryn Mawr and Haverford Colleges, led by Haverford Associate Professor of Music Thomas Lloyd, and performed concerts with the choirs at Middle East Technical, Anadolu, and Bogazici Universities. In addition to practicing pieces from the Turkish repertoire, the Chamber Singers have prepared for the trip by attending lectures on Turkish history and culture. Sezen Aksu to Perform in the US

Famous Turkish pop singer Sezen Aksu will be performing three concerts in the United States on April 4-7, 2010. Sponsored by the Turkish Cultural Foundation, the concert tour will begin at Strathmore Concert Hall in Maryland on April 4, continue at Carnegie Hall on New York on Apr. 6, and end at Prudential Hall in Newark, New Jersey on April 7. More than 8000 fans of the Turkish star are expected to be traveling from all across the United States to see her performing live. TAASNY stages play for children

Supported by a grant from the Turkish Cultural Foundation, the Turkish American Art Society of New York (TAASNY) staged “Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves – Ali Baba ve Kirk Haramiler,” to Turkish American children in New York, Philadelphia and Washington, DC. Performed in Turkish with intercultural references geared toward Turkish American children, the play received praise from parents and children alike. TAASNY, a theater troupe that consists primarily of Turkish American amateur performers, has previously received TCF funding to stage two acclaimed Turkish plays, Kanli Nigar and Hisseli Harikalar Kumpanyasi. Tiburon International Film Festival

The 9th Annual Tiburon International Film Festival concluded on March 26th 2010 with its Annual Awards program. The Turkish Cultural Foundation sponsored this year’s program which highlighted Turkish Cinema. There were 8 Turkish entries and over 225 films from around the world. The Golden Reel award for best film of the festival was awarded to Lacivert Film of Istanbul and its producer Atil Inac for “Step into the Darkness”.
